After about 7 flights on this new system I can definitely say I'm very happy.

I bought the 10 channel version and as you can see from the pictures it looks right at home Smiley

It does feel more connected (but not as much as I thought it would - whatever that was laughing ) and using 2.4GHz without having to bin my much loved 9chp was always the big advantage.

Setting it up to bind the RX and TX together was very easy and the heli now looks and feels much better.

ps. Keeping the RX 2 inches away from CF (as the manual says) is near impossible IMHO.

Good to see you've had 7 trouble free flights using the system, it gives me more confidence. I have installed it on heli and she's ready to go...hoping to test very soon, haven't yet because its not approved in Australia...politics! what a drag Angry

I have found that by placing rx on boom block I can get the 2inches clearance recommended, and also for me it works well as I don't need to use extensions on servos (Futaba s9451 x3).

Also if I turn the handle on the radio to face the front, the antenna on the module can be upright, and still be 1inch away from metal.

Everybody has their preferred setups, however you may want to consider these if you are concerned about the 2inch clearance.

Posted some pics illustrating above notes....hope I have trouble free flights also with this system...cheers and happy flying Smiley

Careful you don't swipe the rx antenna off with the flybar/paddles in a "hard landing".

Good point Flymo, however I checked it and double checked it, its no where near it. If the rx was sitting out further...say near where the servo is, then yes it gets a bit hairy, but where it is is OK.

The only problem of course if I happen to crash, and break the blades/flybar, there is a higher risk that they will clip the antenna as they break off...but then again if you crash a 600 chances are you're going to break a lot of things, and we usually place gyros where I have he rx, and breaking...say a 401 or a 611 gyro in a crash is much more expensive to replace then an xps rx.

Hopefully you, me and all who enjoy this hobby have the least amount of crashes....cheers Smiley

Looks great fella. Smiley

Thanks!!

I went flying today at our club, couldn't have asked for a better day. Although the xps system is not yet approved...flew anyway, despite a bit of controversy.

However before flying, I had to satisfy myself and some of the club members that it was going to be OK, so apart from the recommended range check, we range tested it on the ground approximately 250m (820ft) away without the antenna in the module, and heli pointed in different directions....it was flawless!

Had 5 flights with no sign of any glitches...again flawless! I can now say that I am also a happy fella, but more so when it is approved!
I definitely felt connected, but did not notice any difference in response time.

In reality the heli response always felt instant to me pre & post XPS, that's what matters to me, and not what the specs say, and how it looks on paper!

If anyone else has used this system...would be interested in your thoughts & input.

Cheers

PS: attached Pic of my baby still in one piece despite an interesting day of controversy...xps rules!

Symon,

How long did your XPS gear take to arrive after you got the shipped notification?

Just had a complete lockout using the new XPS module for futaba 9c and 10 channel receiver.  About 150feet out and 100 feet up did an easy banked turn and lost coms.  Went in inverted, lost blades main shaft and feathering spindle, hattori, landing gear, clutch and housing, a few links flybar and paddles. Boom and tail completely unscathed...that's a first! Was definatlely a lock out as the failsafe kicked in.  Never had so much as a twitch with the DX7 on DSM2!!!

That's a worry!

It maybe worth an email to the company. Surely that's not meant to happen!

I never got glitches with my previous set-up either...I just wanted 2.4 to make sure it stayed that way. Now I'm a little worried.

Yes I will send them an email.
As the heli went in inverted and into a barley field it didn't get too damaged and all the electronics were still together when I picked it up and of course working fine again.
I am pretty annoyed as I had just ordered another XPS rx cos I was so impressed!

No answers yet.
Zero confidence in this kit at the moment.  Can't see myself flying with it again to be honest.  Lots of other ways to blow £250!

Some of the answers Jim is giving on RCgroups are a bit confusing!

Why ask what orientation the aerial was to the rx?!?!? Surely this system's not meant to care about that. Huh
