Neat E-Starter solution for the Nitro

Hi Nitro junkies

I'm constantly looking out for the best starter solution for my Nitro birds and i guess i'm not far from it now.

I got on of the new "Mini" starters from ReadyHeli and a one way hex wand.




The starter is powered by a Align 3S/2100 Lipo Pack that is simply taped on the side of the starter motor - they have the same length 
I mounted the hex wand directly on the starter. This required a bit of mod to prevent the wand from getting unscrewed from the motor. I simply used a small pin and drilled a hole into the wand to keep it from spinning.

I did some load test on the Hyper and YS engines, both for about 20" .. 30" and the starter has pleant of power and spins fast enough .. also for the YS to build up the pressure for the pump! After that "bench" test i had to charge back ~300mA on the LIPO. So that's plenty of energy even for problematic engines 

And the best of all, it's a very lightweight and compact solution. No heavy starter batteries and the hex wand can be pulled out of the one-way bearing which is great to fit into the startbox!

All last summer I was using a 14.4V battery drill fitted with a sawn off ball ended hex allen key.

However in winter cold weather, and maybe with my motor a bit more worn, it doesn't tuurn the motor fast enough to get it to start easily, which is a pain.

I have a 12V conventional starter and it drives me mad becuase always the damned thing wobbles out of the rubber cup.
I just did a similar mod to you, tapped the end and loctited it tight on the sahaft but after 3 starts it came loose. So now it has been drilled and a roll pin put through to fix it on forever.

The starter has an old 450 1800 3 cell lipo velcroed to the side. I have a selection of old 450 packs that won't fly the heli much but are still good for a few starts

My wand as no one way. There is a one way in the heli start shaft on my raptor and 600n so I see no need for a bearing in the starter too.

I've not really tested this setup much, but I jjust don't like spending money on stuff like sarters (but the heli, 600n pro, 3xBL451, CSM720/BL251 maniac 603, is a different story!).

True, i like to spend my money on the heli as well. But nothing is more annoying as staying on the ground because you battery does not have enough power to build up enough pressure in the tank to fire up the YS pump system. And that's on (the only) of the issues with this engine, because on low temperatures the diaphragma and one-way valve tend to stick sometimes.

Anyhow the starter ~25$ same as the hex wand. That's a real good investment i guess ..
