Battle has commenced on the building of my Apache Gunship. I have purchased a kit from the following website

http://www.approachengineering.com/products/AP100.php

I shall also be applying a full suite of rivets to said build. I will post some pictures as I go of the fuselage and give opinion on the kit itself.

Personally speaking, I am expecting my knowledge of model building to not come up to a standard that will allow me to complete the fuselage. I am however going to give it a good go.

I will be watching this closely. Good luck! Smiley

Did you buy the raptor tail converter so that you can have a high tail?

Pepperpete, Yes he sent me the required conversion so that I can use my 600E with a high tail.

Got the first few steps done last night, only about 70,000 bits of wood to go. I reckon with a good tail wind I should have it done by 2011 Smiley

Talisa;

Congrats to you to do a wood fuselage. I just got my Cobra from Approach and will soon start it (see Red Bull Cobra). I gonna tell you this will be a lot of fun and not just another "me too" fuselage. I'm looking forward to hear from you how the build process is going.

Cheers - Surri

Hi Surri,

Great to hear that someone else is taking the plunge and trying an Approach fuselage. Tips and tricks welcome. Shame we are not doing the same model Smiley  Maybe I should get a Cobra AH-1 too.

Bit curious on your definition of 'fun'. You obviously have a different look at it than I do. I am terrified!!!! Smiley

T;

Yeah - this is great that you doing an Approach Engineering fuselage as well. Doesn't need to be the same.

Fun....my definition is to observe how a number of balsa wood pieces are forming a beautiful fuselage.

I have build in the past a scratch build balsa wood CH-149 Cormorant....just based on drawing and photos. I'm still living it with good memories of the building time.

No worries...  Really...

"Do you know how to eat an elephant?"

"One bite at a time..."

(I used that a lot with mom - and one of the *best* retorts I've ever heard was from her: "yeah, but I started at the wrong end..."  she was a feisty gal...  *smile*)

Take it a bit at a time, and remember "precision" is your friend...  shortcuts will make things more difficult...  and above all, HAVE FUN!  Thumbs Up

Hi LF, thanks for the advice Smiley

S, I know, just cr@pping myself about it, god knows why. One thing is that I appear to have the touch of a Rhino when it comes to handling balsa, feels like it will break just sitting in/on my hand Smiley

Don't worry about breaking a part.......will happen, but there are a lot of trees left and as Leap stated, you can use the tree to replace a tiny small part.

Only started working on the upright tail section. This is the section that raises the tail rotor from its original position to a few inches higher. Once I have the tube set in place I will post a picture. I was thinking when it came to pictures that I would post a pic or two after each section of the manual was complete. I have a couple of bits to finish on the tail and then I will post.

Toni

Sounds a nice little project - pity I haven`t got any spare mechanics lying around. Hmm?

Is the 600e going to go in without any modifications to the fuselage?

Whats the quality of the kit like?

Have you got a mixture of dense grade balsa for areas that need to be stronger than others and lighter stuff for weight saving less important sections or is it all the same?

Or is the kit mainly plywood or lite ply  Smiley

I`m quite interested in this  Wink
