Hey guys, thought I'd share a funny story...well funny in a way. I ordered a lipo for an rc car thats been sitting around since I have a lipo charger for my heli. It took about 3 weeks to get here from hong kong, and after a rough day in my classes i was really excited to get it set up, so i went straight to cut off the weird tabs that came on it, and tried to cut through both wires as once....completing the circuit and frying the battery. At least it was a 30 dollar turnigy lipo, but still unfortunate. The charger reads 'incorrect voltage'...guess I'll stick with my heli.

Whoa...  this is a good one for the "Safety" section...  basically... do one lead at a time.  *smile*

Thanks for sharing.

In reality do lipos explode like they do in that vid???

I had a damaged lipo from a crash which we shot many times with an air rifle and all it did was smoke a lot.

That vid shows that lipo bags work Grin

What are they pumping in to that lipo to make it explode like it does, bet they are ramming in the voltage or something

I honestly don't know Ben, but not long ago someone posted some photos on RR showing their mini-van burning to the ground as the result of a lipo fire. --> Here's the complete story. Two Thumbs Up

I've done it before Embarrassed I wasn't thinking and just snipped Roll Eyes. The chance of explosion is slim but if the wires had fused together it would have been stand back time Shocked The good thing is you only ever do it once! laughing

Lipos don't blow up like some people fear (hand grenade etc). The swell and pop. The gases vent with quite a rage and there is a massive amount of heat and fury for about 5 seconds. It's all in a small area so if it was on grass you could stand back and let it happen (I've has it a few times). However, if it was near anything combustible...it would easily ignite it.

Glad it wasn't worse.  I spliced in a new plug on my MCX just the other night. I failed to check the polarity of the old wire compared to the new one. Apparently they were reversed. When I plugged up the battery, it immediately swelled up. I grabbed it with a rag, snatched it off and threw it out side. It didn't catch on fire, but definitely got my attention.

What was crazy is I had black to black, and red to red. All soldered and heat shirnked. I was like WTF!  Never dreamed of them being reversed! Huh

Oh and thanks for posting that video!  Grin
