I was out at the field a couple of weeks ago and learned that my fancy Align starter struggles to turn my new O.S. 91.  It will start it with a battery fresh off the charger, but chatters with one that's been used a couple times.  That being the case, I decided to go with a Super Hi-Tork Sulivan, but didn't want to setup a battery box or worse yet (hook it to my car battery).  That's when I ran across this Makita 18 volt battery adapter made by "A Finer Edge MFG".  Installation was a breeze and the batteries snap on-off just like they would on any Mikata cordless tool...very cool! Clap Clap Clap

The batteries and charger were purchased separately here --> We Are Tools Warehouse.

Yes, thats the best combo starter you can get.

A bloke at the field has that exact combo but it comes at a price.

An Align starter will start a 90 but it shudders like crazy and shakes you to bits laughing

Ya, I've seen the video.  Ran across it when I went looking for a better starter.  I like my Align starter, works great for my O.S. 55...but struggles big time with my 91. Cry

I had a home made 4cell Lipo but I love that Makita adapter! Is it just for Makita or others?

As far as I know it's just Makita. Huh

Now that's a pretty cool idea. It's always nice when an idea and then product comes along that makes use of something you already have.  Two Thumbs Up

Yup!  I don't have any Makita cordless tools Bill, but certainly if I did this would have been an even better find. Clap

Hum, off to Home Depot...I can use a good cordless drill. Grin

Yup, I'm on it! Clap Clap Clap

will it be a problem later on.

I honestly don't know? Huh

All I can tell you is we tried two different Align starters (both fairly new) and neither one of them would turn my O.S. 91.  That said, it could have been a battery issue too.  I was using a 2100 mAh Align battery and I must admit it hasn't been cared for properly.  My buddy was using a "Common Sense" battery that I'm sure has been abused as well? Huh

At any rate, it's clear the guys in the above video have experienced the same problem.  Therefore I figured I'd follow their lead and never have to deal with it again. Two Thumbs Up

Mine did start my YS91 but shook the hell out of me and so did every other Align starter I tried.

Start 50's smooth but not 90's and it is because of the gear ratio and the fact that it  does not spin that fast but has lots of torque.

Wow, what a difference! Clap Clap Clap

I'm planning a trip to the field on Sunday, so I figured I better make sure this thing was going to work before then.  Starting my O.S. 91 was effortless and it spun my O.S. 55 considerably faster then it idles...problem solved! Two Thumbs Up

In fact, I'm going to order another one to fit the Hobbico starter that I use for all my vintage helis. Two Thumbs Up

This is a great mod to the Sulivan with my being done in 2008 when I put my T Rex700 together.

Three people in the club have now done the same mod and they also love it.

I also have another one kitted out to start my Vario but this is the other version designed for the Hobbico Torqmaster 180.

Problem is the price of those Makita packs  Shocked
